Whether you have never danced before or are a seasoned groover, you will have a great time at our free workshops. Classes range from African to contemporary dance and are open to all ages and abilities.

African Dance with Pulga
Friday August 24 @6pm

Join dance artist Pulga Muchochoma for a celebratory hour of African Dance! Pulga has combined the Traditional Dances of his home country, Mozambique, with Afro Fusion styles from Nigeria, Ghana and Angola to arrive at his teaching style - Pulga Dance. The dances he teaches will bring us together through the sharing of ritual, culture, history and celebration. No experience necessary, just a desire to learn and have fun!

Dance Creation​​ with Jamee
 Saturday August 25 @2pm

​​Join Your Dance Fest 2017 choreographer, James Valin in a behind the scenes look at how dances get made. The workshop will begin with self care activities that awaken the body and focus the mind. Through familiar movements such as rolling, resting, walking and skipping, we will discover our bodies’ unique movement abilities. This will be followed by games, music, and group activities that help us feel empowered by our individual creative voices. Together we we will work to incorporate our unique movement ideas into a collective dance; educating and including all participants in the practice of creation.

Urban Dance ​​​with Emily
Saturday August 25 @6pm

Join Mix Mix Dance Collective founding member, Emily Law as she shares with us the basics of Waacking. Together we will learn about posing, arm pathways, movement through space and musicality. If you have an interest in street/disco dance forms/styles this is the workshop for you! Designed for all-level dancers; no previous experience in street/urban dance styles required. All you need is comfortable clothing and a willingness to groove!

Latin Dance with Mateo
Sunday August 26 @2pm

Dance artist, Mateo Galindo Torres, invites you to find your inner Latinx in his Latinflavour workshop. Party to music from Latinamerica as you learn the basics about what makes latin dance forms so irresistible. Accessible to movers of all experience levels, this one hour workshop will invite you to release your body, find your inner rhythm and connect with others. No partner necessary.
